Mobile trolley mounted chemical sampling systems
If there are multiple vessel sampling requirements in the same hall, a trolley mounted recirculating sampler can save on some initial costs. Where the trolley can be pushed from vessel to vessel and the connections made using quick release couplings mounted to PTFE flexible hoses to the vessel and to the services required to operate the sampler. These can also be used where head space around the reactor is limited preventing a recirculating sampler being fitted on top of the dip pipe.
Isolation valves can be opened once the sampling system is connected to the vessel. The pump is then started, the sample is drawn up the dip pipe through the flexible hose and into the system, the pump drives the sample back into the vessel through the discharge hose. After allowing the pump to run for a few seconds to ensure a representative sample the sample can be dispensed using the SD IL 400 inline sampling valve.
Just like its vessel mounted counterpart the sampler is blown clear after taking the sample by introducing nitrogen at the inlet which is pumped round the system, a wash liquor can also be introduced and pumped into the vessel before being purged clear with compressed gas.
There is a wide choice up pumps available and we typically try to follow the customers site standard. Double diaphragm pumps machined from solid PTFE blocks are suitable for use up to 100° C, beyond that we supply our sampling systems with a tubular diaphragm pump which can be used in processes up to 180° C.
Materials of construction are usually PFA / PTFE lined with borosilicate glass viewing windows and PTFE seals, these are chosen to allow the samplers to be used to sample highly corrosive processes containing HCL, Sulphuric acid etc. Our customers specify recirculating sampling systems where they require in process sampling of batches of product as they are mixed in reactor vessels to ensure the correct parameters are achieved, allowing them to adjust the chemistry as required whilst producing the batch of product.
Trolleys are robustly designed, manufactured from stainless steel and are fitted as standard with large diameter antistatic wheels and large handle for easy manoeuvrability across the hall. They incorporate a large tray to store the flexible hoses out of harm’s way.
There are many additional features and functions that can be integrated into our trolley mounted recirculating sampling systems, such as:
- pH probe mounts
- powder seeding option
- turbidity sensors
- temperature sensors
Typically we use Atomac ball valves in our design. This is because we know that they offer excellent sealing performance and have provided decades of service to our customers. The PFA lined valves are perfect to control the flows through our sampling systems and so are our first choice.
As with all our samplers and sampling systems we would recommend that the sample bottle is contained within safety cabinet, this protects the bottle, operator and environment. Our standard cabinet is stainless steel with a laminated glass door.
To help specify a sampling system we have a questionnaire which you can download.
